This led me to consider a more general problem (we are talking about a Touring solution here, not just a better chess engine after all) – what would AI software look like where a game was just one of the things a CPU wanted to learn/master/win? Again, this goes back to the motivation question – what is the motivation for winning? Why not choose not to play, or even choose to lose?

You’ve probably heard the saying that you should enjoy the down times in life because they make the up times sweeter. Well, I think I’m getting stuck in the opposite – my up times are so fantastic that the rest of the time, my normal days have become so drab and boring that it often feels painful.
