“If you close your eyes, does the world still exist?”. Of course, I would have laughed at the stupidity of this question for most of my life because I believed in absolute truth and reality. Now, as I lean more towards Buddhist views, I see that “reality” is only “reality” to you as you experience it.

I suppose the biggest thing I'm thinking about right now is her suggestion that the meaning of life is to work hard to accomplish something. She implies that if we work hard, create something, be successful then you will be happy and you have helped the world. This philosophy is directly opposed to the Buddhist one which says that we should just accept that nothing is truly fulfilling in life and that we shouldn't strive to accomplish something big because we will end up being disappointed.

It had to be asked: What was it I was so attached to? Is it just something in the imagination? When you have done time in a mental hospital, that is never a trivial question. If he wasn't just imaginary, then where did he go? Do real things just disappear like that? If they do, then the conservation laws of physics are in trouble. But if we stay with the laws of physics, then the Chris that disappeared was unreal. Round and round and round. He used to run off like that just to make me mad. Sooner or later he would always appear, but where would he appear now? After all, really, where did he go?

Way back when I was in high school, I remember my world religions teacher teaching us (the class) about Zen Buddhism and actually, he told us that was his "religion" (if it can be called that). The only point that stuck with me was that he told how ideally, a Zen Buddhist person would never hold on to any grudge or anything. Someone in the class even asked what he would do if somebody murdered his son and he said that he would be angry, but that he would try to accept it and move on with life. I laughed to myself when I heard that and though he was stupid. I don't think he's stupid anymore.

I've created 3 categories to differentiate the ways I see people try to sell things 1) Obvious 2) Diversionary and 3) Secretive/Accidental. I'll list a few examples of each and we'll decide what we like best.
